A Family Tea

Research Led Counter Narrative Drama

This drama explores a mother’s descent into far-right ideologies, capturing the raw and unsettling way radicalisation can fracture a family from the inside out. By exposing how social media algorithms quietly funnel extremist content into the heart of the home, the film forces a confrontation with what we are actually being “fed” online.

This work is a core output of SMIDGE (Social Media Narratives: Addressing Extremism in Middle Age), an EU-funded Horizon Europe project researching online narratives to build digital resilience against extremist content.

To ensure the message reaches those most at risk, various bespoke cuts were created for specific social platforms to achieve maximum impact. By releasing this content directly where vulnerable groups are most active, the film acts as a strategic intervention – challenging viewers to pause, reflect, and break the algorithmic cycles of modern radicalisation.
