One of five documentary films for The Open University for their Child Development and Youth module.
Following the make-or-break story of teenager, Lola, who is from a Roma family in Hungary. The challenge was to re-edit a feature film into thirty minutes. The film was shortlisted in the BUFUC Learning on Screen Award for Best Research Film.
“We were working with some very intense and unique footage gathered by myself and a Hungarian colleague over a long period in a Roma community. I wanted to produce a strong, authentic piece and the close involvement in the edit led to a piece that was shortlisted for the Arts and Humanities Research Council ‘Research in Film’ awards 2015. The judges commented: ‘immensely powerful …. the ethnographic ambitions of the director are clearly delivered.’”
